Shield
Orange and white are the colors used for Signal Battalions. The lightning bolts symbolize communications. The white broad area between two narrow bands refers to the 44th Signal Battalion's past mission as a Signal Construction Battalion. The sword refers to both the tactical and support mission of the Battalion. The sword also alludes to man's determination to defend freedom against oppression.
Crest
The tower represents World War II service in Rhineland and Central Europe. The gold cross symbolizes the award of the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and four Meritorious Unit Commendations, also awarded for service in Southwest Asia and Vietnam. The scimitars refer to service in the defense of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Gold signifies excellence.
The coat of arms was originally approved on 15 June 1967. It was amended to include a crest on 9 April 1998.
